Active Swim - August 2025 Newsletter

Active Swim Newsletter – August 2025
We hope you and your little swimmers are enjoying the water as much as we do! It’s hard to believe that this time last year we were holding our breath watching the pool come into the building.
It has been a massive year for us with adding swimming into our regular programming. For those of you who have followed our journey from the beginning, you would know that swimming and gymnastics has always been our passion, with Ashleigh (our Director) starting Active Attitude at the age of 18, with the very mission to one day be able to teach swimming and gymnastics under one roof. 18 years later, we were finally able to make that happen!
A massive thank you to the families that have been with us from the 1st of September last year, when we first opened our pool for lessons, right through to those of you who have joined us along the way. We have had so many people come to us through word of mouth, and we greatly appreciate you all sharing your support for what we do. As a token of our appreciation, we have a special celebration week happening in our swim area from the 1st of September.
We also have a few more finishing touches and additions to add to our swimming area, which all going to plan, you will see popping up over the next few weeks.
Celebrating 1 Year of Active Swim! Week of 1st September
We’re celebrating with a Hawaiian themed week, filled with some fun themed activities integrated into our swimming lessons and some treats for you all. We’d love to showcase some student progress too, so if you have any videos or you would be happy to provide a testimonial of your experience/your child’s journey from when they started to now, we would really appreciate you sharing these with us so we could share them with the community; you never know who your story might resonate with and we would like to help as many children as possible learn to swim. Please e-mail admin@activeattitude.co.nz with any links to videos etc. that you are happy for us to share.
We will also be releasing some resources that we have been working on for the past year, to further enhance your child’s swim experience with us.
Programme Updates
Introducing: Swim Tots Plus!
We’re excited to launch our new Swim Tots Plus class, designed for children aged 2–3 who have been in our Swim Tots class for a minimum of 6 months and are confident with the activities in that class. This class will extend on the activities taught in Swim Tots and will help lead in with the transition to our pre-school programmes for ages 3+ where children are in the pool without their parents.
The first one of these classes we have scheduled is 12:00-12:25pm on Sundays, starting Sunday 7th September. If you would like us to transfer your child over to this class, please send us an e-mail admin@activeattitude.co.nz or a transfer request via the parent portal. We will be introducing more of these classes over the next few months.
Join Our Team!
We’re on the lookout for passionate swim instructors and/or child educators to join our Active Attitude team. If you (or someone you know) love working with children and want to train to be an Active Attitude Instructor, we will provide all the training, guidance and support you need to thrive in our Swim School.
Ashleigh is running an “Introduction to Swim Teaching” module this Saturday, 23 August, at 4:30 – 5:30pm for anyone who is interested in learning to teach swimming and potentially working here at Active Attitude. She will be going over some of the key concepts of swim teaching, an overview of our Active Attitude swim curriculum and our teaching philosophy to give anyone interested in teaching swimming with us a dive into what we do, without any obligations or expectations. We want to introduce more people to what a rewarding role being a swim teacher is, and we want to remove any barriers for people that would like to dip their toes in before fully submerging themselves into full training. If you know of someone with an excellent character and shares a passion of enhancing the lives of young people, please send them our way and let them know about the opportunity.
For more info and/or to register for the introduction module, please e-mail: ashleigh@activeattitude.co.nz

The Early Years Swimming Study
Last month Ashleigh was able to attend a conference where the researcher of this study was speaking. It’s a great reminder of how the benefits of Early Childhood swimming are not just in the water, but in preparation for school as well. Check out this clip here to see why Professor Robyn Jorgensen said the results indicated children who swam had an advantage over non-swimming children when starting school.
Private Lessons
Private swimming tuition is available for both children and adults. If you have never learnt to swim and would like to make this a goal, we are here to help! Private lesson bookings can be made here.
Thank you for being part of our Active Swim community – we love all the support the children get up on the pool deck.
